Petra's father makes magical toys out of metal. Toys that can talk and walk and think. The Prince sends for her father to make a magical clock for his kingdom. When he has completed all but the last piece (the heart) of the clock, the Prince has his eyes removed so that he can never make another clock. The Prince thinks he can put the last piece in the clock and make it work. When the clock is completed, the prince will be able to control the weather and through that, control the entire empire. Petra's father comes home blind, and Petra is determined to get her father's eyes back. She disguises herself and goes to court to find the Cabinet of Wonders where her father's eyes are hidden. With the help of Neel, a gypsy boy, she steals her father's eyes and escapes the prince, returning the eyes to her father. But now, the Prince is out for revenge. I'm sure a sequel will follow.
