Impossible by Nancy Werlin

Lucy Scarborough is a 17 year old high school student who has never dated. On her first date to the prom, she is raped by her date and becomes pregnant. She finds out that her real mother, who is mentally ill, was also an unmarried mother at 17. She finds out that her family is cursed for generations. Each girl will have a daughter at 17 and become mentally ill until the curse is broken. Based on the song Scarborough Fair, Lucy must make a magical shirt without any seam or needlework. She must find an acre of land between the salt water and the sea strand. Lastly, she must plow the land with a goat's horn and sow it all over with one grain of corn. With her guardians, Soledad and Leo, and with the help of Zach, a neighbor boy who loves her and marries her, she is able to accomplish the tasks and save herself and her daughter from the Elfin Knight, an evil spirit from the past.
